Joe Menendez '72 Appointed CEO of the Vita Group, UK Monday, January 28, 2008 (0 reads)
Joe Menendez (BA Chemistry, 1972) was appointed CEO of the Vita Group in early January 2008. Established in the UK over 60 years ago, the Vita Group is a global producer of foam and industrial polymers, engineered thermoplastic sheet and nonwovens. Operating at over 90 sites in 21 countries, it supplies a vast range of materials for industrial applications to a range of markets from transportation and furniture to medical appliances.
Joe joins the Group from Saint-Gobain, where he held many senior positions, including President of the global Grains & Powders business group, and was, most recently, President of Saint-Gobain’s global Abrasives business, based in France for five of the last seven years.
Joe achieved his BA degree in Chemistry from Washington & Jefferson College, Washington, PA in 1972 and his MBA degree in 1973 from University of Pittsburgh, Katz School of Business, Pittsburgh, PA,.
Joe and Lucia Menendez have relocated to London.

W&J Group Visits Gambia’s Biggest Newspaper Company Wednesday, January 23, 2008 (70 reads)
 A group of 21 students from Washington & Jefferson College, on Monday, visited Observer Company Ltd, producer of the Daily Observer newspaper, as part of their outreach programme to enrich the scope of their understanding about the diversity of African tradition and culture, politics, and other areas relevant to their academic fields of study.

Nicknamed the "dream team" for its crushing defeat of longtime incumbent Washington County District Attorney John C. Pettit, four of the key players in new District Attorney Steve Toprani's campaign committee will join him as staff members. Campaign manager Steven Fischer, criminal investigator J. Michael Aaron, former assistant U.S. attorney Craig McKay and retired state trooper Ron Levi will surround Mr. Toprani as he takes office this week.

As the New Year gets under way, most of us will be stashing the Christmas decorations, watching football and getting used to writing "2008" on checks. Former Washington County resident Hollis Zemany will be making a whole different set of adjustments, though. The 2006 graduate of Washington & Jefferson College will be in Mumbai, India, for the filming of a movie in which she will have a starring role.
